What is a Mass Flow Controller?

A Mass Flow Controller (MFC) is a two-in-one device designed to simultaneously measure and automatically control the flow rate of gases to a specific setpoint.

The key advantage of an MFC over standard rotameters or flow gauges is that it measures mass rather than volume. This ensures that the readings remain accurate and unaffected by fluctuations in system temperature or pressure, which is critical for high-precision applications.

Our models utilize Thermal Dispersion technology integrated with a highly sealed electromagnetic proportional valve, ensuring minimal to near-zero leakage.

Industries & Applications

How to Choose the Right Model for Your Application

Step 1: Determine Your Actual Flow Range. Select a model where your typical operating flow is between 30-70% of the Full Scale (F.S.). Operating below 30% reduces accuracy. Avoid choosing an unnecessarily wide flow range.

Step 2: Check for PLC or SCADA Integration. If integrating with a centralized control system, the PS300 or PS500 series with RJ45 ports will make wiring easier. For local on-site reading only, the PE Series is sufficient.

Step 3: Check Inlet Pressure. The system must have a pressure of 0.5-4 bar for > 2 slm applications, or 0.5-6 bar for ≤ 2 slm applications. If the pressure is higher, a regulator must be installed upstream.

Step 4: Specify Gas Type When Ordering. The Mass Flow Controller must be calibrated specifically for the gas being used, as different gases have distinct heat capacities.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between a Mass Flow Controller and a Mass Flow Meter?
A Mass Flow Meter (MFM) only measures the flow. A Mass Flow Controller (MFC) both measures and automatically controls the flow using an internal valve to maintain your setpoint. If you only need to know how much gas is used, an MFM is enough. If you need the system to automatically maintain the flow rate, an MFC is required.

What types of gases are supported?
We support Air, N2, O2, CO2, He, H2, CH4, and Ar. Please specify the gas type when ordering so the device can be accurately factory-calibrated for that specific gas.

Can it be integrated with PLC or SCADA?
Yes. All models support RS-485 Modbus RTU and your choice of analog signals (0-5V or 4-20 mA).

Are the products in stock or made-to-order?
This depends on the specific model and flow range required. Please call 081-123-2475 to check our current inventory.

Are prices inclusive of VAT?
Please contact our sales team for pricing terms and an official quotation.
